ENGLISH COURSE AND EXAM PROGRAMME FOR DENTISTRY
There are seven credits for the English course plus final exam. Students have to attend at least 70% of their lessons.
The exam consists of an oral and a written paper. For their oral, students have to be able to answer questions on the topics covered during the course (outlined below ) whereas the written paper comprises two or three open questions as well as a translation from Italian-English. These reflect the topics covered during the course. Students are also tested on dental terminology.
During the course, students read and translate a series of topics:

The objective is for the student to be familiar with basic dental terminology through reading and translating dental texts and then to be able to answer questions about them in English.
Course work also includes: practice translations from Italian-English and open questions; grammar hand-outs; exercises on points such as compound nouns, if clauses, linkers and the duration form; dentist – patient dialogues with particular emphasis on question forms and instructions; describing pain; a wide range of dental texts (Pub Med articles / dental surgery brochures etc.).
PROGRAMMA D’INGLESE PER ODONTOIATRIA
Ci sono sette crediti per il corso e l’esame. Gli studenti hanno l’obbligo della frequenza (minimo 70%).
L’esame è diviso in due parti: quella orale e quella scritta. Per la parte orale gli studenti dovranno essere in grado di rispondere a domande sugli argomenti affrontati durante le lezioni, mentre, per la parte scritta, l’esame consiste in due o tre domande aperte ed una traduzione dall’Italiano all’Inglese con argomento e lessico pertinenti agli argomenti svolti durante le lezioni. Gli argomenti e condizioni ortodontici sono raccolti in una dispensa e sono:

L’obiettivo del programma è di insegnare allo studente terminologia odontoiatrica di base attraverso la lettura e la traduzione di testi odontoiatrici per poi rispondere a domande in inglese.
Durante le lezioni vengono effettuate: traduzioni dall’italiano all’inglese e domande aperte; schede di grammatica ed esercizi su punti grammaticali come compound nouns, ‘if’ clauses, connettori e la duration form; dialoghi tra dentista e paziente con particolare attenzione alla forma interrogativa e l’imperativo; come descrivere il dolore; una vasta gamma di articoli che vanno da quelli di Pub Med a depliants utilizzati da studi dentistici inglesi.
